In April 2020, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation provided Engage New York with $1 million to support local, community-based organizations working in different communities across the State that were addressing the needs of individuals and families excluded from other relief efforts. We started by collecting data on the various relief funds that were available in sixty-two counties across the State. Working with our network, and the staff of the New York Foundation, our fiscal sponsor, we awarded 100 grants to organizations focused on mutual aid for populations that were excluded from the federal stimulus relief efforts, such as undocumented immigrants, formerly incarcerated people, and domestic workers.
