Lead Free Kids New York: A Case Study in Aligned Funding for Environmental Health Policy and Advocacy Grantmaking

In 2018, Engage New York supported community foundations interested in solving the lead poisoning crisis in New York. As part of our work, we helped establish and support an aligned funding strategy that brought 4 community foundations together to fund the creation of a formal statewide coalition called Lead Free Kids New York which is comprised of funders, nonprofits, environmental health and housing advocates, public interest lawyers, and other experts to advance policies in the New York State legislature to protect children and families. We documented the process because we believe this strategy could be used to address other issues confronting communities impacted by injustice. Read the case study that highlights the successes of this aligned funding strategy here.
